# What is Decentralized Media Protocol?

## What is Decentralized Media Protocol?

Decentralized Media is a blockchain-based protocol that allows media creators to exchange value with media messages with anybody who gives attention to the media. The value transfer is in the form of its native media fungible token called Deedcoins.

In simpler words, imagine you could create a message/post in facebook and then attach some money with it as an reward for paying attention to your message/post. The media programatilcally rewards every viewer of your post from the balance attached with the media.

## What are the benefits of Decentralized Media Protocol?

There are multiple benefits of having Decentralized Media in our society.

Media is a very important part of our social fabric; it communicates what is happening around us and what we should believe. For centuries, it has been centralized with a handful of individuals controlling it.

First, it was curated media that needed gatekeepers' permission to be in the media like Magazine, Newspaper. Then the internet came which tried to make it permissionless but ended up being more centralized.

#### No Centralized Gatekeeper (~~Mark,~~ ~~Jack~~ )

There is no gatekeeper calling all the shots for how the platform should run. In fact it's a permissionless system where anybody can make their Daap on top leveraging on the content generated

#### Fair Trade of Attention

All monetary gain of the trade of attention is captured by the attention giver and not the gatekeeper.

#### No Opaque Feed Algorithm

Unlike today's media platform the feed algorithm is fair and simple.

Whoever pays more for the reward is listed higher in the media listing page

#### No Spammy Content

Imagine you needed $0.0001 to send a mail, how much would that cost you monthly. A Dollar at max. Now imagine imposing the same rule to spammy marketing emails. Right..! it might cost them millions.

Adding value to media makes it finite and thus less spammy.

#### No Network Outages

When the backend to any application is deployed in smart contract blockchain there is no single server to attack and thus no outages.

#### Network Moderated Free Speech

Free Speech is subjective and it should not be one person who decides what one can or cannot say. Decentralized free speech allows everyone to speak yet can add necessary moderation in their frontend

The core utility of the tokens is to be the mechanism to transfer value through media. This can be done in two ways, first is when the reciever of tokens who have recieved them as a reward for attention attaches them to create their own media and attach them with their media. Or second, they can sell it to anybody who needs it create their own media and attach it to them.

This exchange of tokens happens in decentralized exchanges in the network where tokens exist like Dragonswap.
